The border guard's path

Follow the borderguards' steps across the beauties of the Šumava Mountains. It is a 19,5 km long educational pathway beginning in Kašperské Hory, leading through Amálino údolí, Řetenice, Ždánov, Kašperk and back to Kašperské Hory. Fifteen information boards containing pictures and texts in Czech, English and German are placed along the pathway. The information board no 16 is situated on the parking place which is the second possible starting point of the path.

The path concentrates thematically on the history of the border defence in both the western and the south western parts of the Czech Republic (the Middle Ages, modern period, financial guard, smuggling, build-up of the Czech Army's fortification in the 1930s, dropping the 'Iron Curtain').

Zdeněk Svoboda (the head of Kašperk castle) and Jan Jirák (the archivist of the Museum of Dr Hostaš in Klatovy), the authors of the project, offer meetings and lectures on the history of the border defence including projection of unique period documentation.
